« It’s not the act of sitting for long periods that causes us pain », « it’s the poor awareness of the way we use our body ».
The Franklin Method® came to me as a « BUT OF COURSE » feeling! I discovered it few years ago and just decided to dive into it, to breath it if i may say. What it is? Embodiement through imagery techniques created by the talented and passionate Eric Franklin. It made me understand that if people suffer from pain and dysfunction its mostly because they have forgotten how to use their bodies or tbetter say: Their mind. In fact, if you are able to change your mind about « Your body », and « How it works », « How it functions » you will be able to change the way you are, and by this i mean the way you breath, you stand, you sit, you walk, you move! Isn’t that great?!
An evolutionary issue
“I need to do things that make sense and that I can see results from. Claudine’s work is like that,” says Bettina Cohen, 44, accounter, who has suffered from back and neck pain that she attributes to doing too much work at her desk.
For many office workers, sitting at a desk all day goes hand in hand with back, neck and shoulder discomfort. Stress and poor positioning can bring on aches or exacerbate injuries among workers faced with heavy computing, frequent travel and long meetings. Regardless of occupation or lifestyle, backaches affect most people— about 8 in 10 deal with the pain at some point in their lives, according to Richard Deyo, a professor of family medicine at Oregon Health and Science University.
The expenses are huge as well. By one estimate that appeared in The Journal of the American Medical Association, the national cost of treating people with back and neck pain was $US86 billion in 2005. And with back pain one of the main reasons for worker disability, missed work because of these aches might cost employers close to $US7 billion a year, according to one study.
For most people with back pain, the aches are short lived and relief comes with rest and time. I can relate to the anxiety of searching for an answer. Let me tell you. I personally previously dealt with an auto immune disease at the age of 24, poly arthritis. I eventually had heavy treatments, but they kind of failed. When doctors suggested me to try a second time, I began a search for other answers.
“I needed her touch, her observations and her humanity » Brigitte Bigar, Founder & CEO Israel Horses.
In my Classes, Workshops and Meet up, people learn how to sit, stand, breath and walk. You want become better at what we do most of the time just because you do it all the time!
How? Training using your brain.
What does it mean? If you can visualise an optimal movement or an optimal function then you can improve the movement and the function itself.
You become better in what you do the most.
Simple: You practice poor posture all day = You will become better in having poor posture. You repeat all day long negative words = You will be pessimistic
So if you practice visualizing your body moving with ease + You will become what you think. Those are not fantasy, those are the latest neurocognitive sciences discoveries ( Brain plasticity ). You can reshape your brain and your body by training while using Imagery techniques. Athletes know that for a while already… Now its your turn to go for the good!
So How do I work? My Method: Franklin Method®
- Which Receipe is : Rehab movements + Neurocognitive Imagery techniques + Basics anatomical knowledge.
- Techniques in my basket: Pilates, Feldenkrais, Postural Gym, Active Global Stretching, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Gymnastique Sensorielle, Hanna Somatics
While some clients take private classes, many enroll in group workshops. Most people tend to be relaxed and slumped (think of a C-shaped spine), or arched up and tense (an S shape), the stand-up-straight style of posture that some parents demand of their children. I help my clients return their bodies to the stance that nature intended: upright and relaxed.
I wish to give you keys, to make you become your own expert, to be in charge, to understand, to be able to take care of yourself… Enough with fears and what’s going on with myself?!
« After doing a group workshop with Claudine this year, Daniel says many things now remind him to make adjustments — seeing others with poor posture at the coffee place or the gym, passing by his reflection in a window, or sitting down in a chair to work. »
“But I don’t beat myself up about it. When I’m aware of my posture, I fix it,” Daniel said. “And eventually, I think, it becomes who you are. »
